Step 1: Perform a Soft Restart

Restarting your phone clears temporary RAM cache, stops rogue background processes, and refreshes the system memory.

  • Android / iPhone: Hold the Power Button (or Power + Volume Up) and tap Restart.

Step 2: Free Up At Least 15% Internal Storage

Smartphones require headroom to manage temporary files. When storage drops below 10-15% free space, system performance degrades noticeably.

  • Delete Unused Apps: Uninstall heavy applications you no longer use.
  • Clean Downloads & Media: Back up full-resolution photos/videos to cloud services (Google Photos / iCloud) and remove local copies.

Step 3: Clear App Caches & Junk Data

Over time, web browsers and social media apps accumulate large amounts of cached data.

  • Android: Go to Settings > Apps > Select heavy app (e.g., Chrome/TikTok) > Storage > Clear Cache.
  • iPhone: Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage, tap an underperforming app, and select Offload App (this deletes the temporary cache while retaining your personal data).

Step 4: Speed Up or Disable System Animations

System UI animations can make app transitions feel sluggish. Reducing or turning them off makes screen navigation instantaneous.

  • Android:
    1. Go to Settings > About Phone and tap Build Number 7 times to enable Developer Options.
    2. Open Settings > System > Developer Options.
    3. Set Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale to 0.5x (or Off).
  • iPhone: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Motion and toggle on Reduce Motion.

Step 5: Update the Operating System & Apps

System updates include critical bug fixes, kernel optimizations, and GPU driver improvements.

  • Update your OS via Settings > System/General > Software Update.
  • Update all installed applications via Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Step 6: Check Battery Health & Degradation

When a smartphone battery degrades (typically below 80% maximum capacity), operating systems dynamically throttle processor clock speeds to prevent unexpected shutdowns under load.

  • iPhone: Check Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging.
  • Android: Check Settings > Battery & Device Care (or use diagnostic tools like AccuBattery).
  • Solution: Replacing an aged battery restores original processor speed.

Step 7: Last Resort – Factory Reset

If software glitches persist after trying all above steps, perform a full backup and reset the device to factory defaults to eliminate deep system corruption.

  • Android: Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset).
  • iPhone: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.
